Stay warm in the cold
Staying warm in the cold is a problem for all cold weather activities. The key is "dead air space". It is not the material in clothing or sleeping gear that insulates you. It is the ability to trap air that will not need to be continuously reheated that is important. That's why putting on 6 pair of socks and cramming on your boots will result in frozen toes. There is no air space left for insulation. This is also the reason inflatable sleeping pads are essential and effective for insulating between you and the cold ground when winter camping. |
